Summary of the film "Madame Bovary"
The main character of the film is Emma Rouault, the daughter of a farmer. One day her father breaks his leg and he has to seek help from the physician Charles Bovary. He sees Emma and falls in love with her at first sight, but the doctor at that time was married for convenience to an ugly and stupid widow whom his mother married him. Emma's father's fracture turns out to be trifling, but Charles cannot stop coming to this family. Emma turns out to be not only beautiful, but also a talented and intelligent girl. Soon, Charles' wife died for some unknown reason, and the young man immediately decided to woo Emma. She becomes Madame Bovary and moves with her husband to his house. Charles truly loved his wife and was ready for anything for her. Emma turned out to be a good hostess. But the wife was not happy with the marriage - at the monastery school she read novels and dreamed of the same love. However, in life everything turned out to be not as beautiful as she thought. Her husband loved her, brought home good money, was kind and caring, but Emma could not find in him a single feature of the hero of the novel.
One day, the Bovary family received an invitation to a ball at the estate of the Marquis, who was once Charles's patient. Once in the same environment as the heroines of her favorite novels, Emma felt happy. The ball was over, and Bovary was not enough, she dreamed of a new invitation. But he was not there. Emma began to feel very sad, she was tired of the monotony in her relationship with her husband. This also affected her health - she fell ill, began to cough and complain of attacks of suffocation. And then Charles began to look for a place with a good climate to move there.
This plan was implemented in the spring. Then it turned out that Emma was expecting a baby. The city turned out to be very small, all residents knew each other by sight. The family has many acquaintances, including a young notary, a dropout Leon Dupuis. This man was very dreamy and almost from the first conversation conquered Emma. Soon she gave birth to a baby girl and named her Bertha. Everything went on as usual, and the life of Madame Bovary was painted only by the assistant notary. But soon he had to leave the woman - he went to Paris. The heroine was again overwhelmed with melancholy, which she drowned out with purchases. Soon she had a huge debt, which she was afraid to tell her husband about.
After that, Emma found a new consolation - a landowner who came to her husband for a reception. The woman immediately liked him and their relationship grew into love. The man quickly became the meaning of her life and she stopped noticing that she was spending a huge fortune on gifts to her beloved. And the landowner cooled more and more towards Emma. He realized that being in touch with her could damage his reputation. He began to make comments to her, scold her, which seriously hurt the heroine's pride.
For Emma's husband, things were not going very smoothly either. The pharmacist Ome tried to persuade him to make someone a new-fashioned operation. Charles was forced to agree. The victim was a groom with a curvature of the foot. It took him a very long time to persuade, the poor man, for lack of a choice, agreed. Emma knew about everything and was very worried about her husband. They spent the whole day after the operation together and she seemed to fall in love with Charles again. However, the next day the groom got worse, the stitches from the operation did not heal and he developed inflammation. I had to call a more experienced doctor from a big city, who had no choice but to deprive the unfortunate leg to the knee. Emma immediately changed her mind about her husband, began to consider him insignificant, and in the evening she met with her lover and spent the whole night with him. She said she wanted to run away with him somewhere. In the beginning he agreed,
The heroine again became very seriously ill - she began to have brain inflammation and fever. She did not feel better immediately, but now she was indifferent to everything and constantly prayed. Then Charles decides to entertain his wife and takes her to the theater. A famous performer was on tour there. Emma liked this idea, she was delighted with operas. During a break, she met her longtime acquaintance Leon. He stopped being a shy young man and decided to get Emma again. He persuaded her to stay in this city, and Charles, thinking that his wife liked the opera so much, left her with joy.
She again began to cheat on her husband and again got into debt. Every Thursday she went to Leon's, covering herself with music lessons. Her husband was glad that she finally felt better, and did not even suspect about the threatening inventory of property. Emma tried to do something - she asked Leon for money, but he refused her. Then she remembered that her former beloved landowner had returned to the city, but he also refused her. Madame Bovary was desperate.
How does Madame Bovary end?
The heroine had no choice - the woman went to the pharmacy and stealthily swallowed arsenic powder. She did not die immediately, but a few days later. Charles was crushed by the death of his wife, moreover, he learned about all her betrayals. He died soon after. Only their daughter Bertha remained, who was taken up by Charles' relatives. The girl had no money left, so she had to go to work in a factory.
