Tristan and Isolde is a 2006 film directed by Kevin Reynolds. The picture, rather, was created based on the legend: the plot is too changed, there are only some similarities. In addition, the characters' characters have been greatly changed. Thus, King Mark became a positive hero. There are other differences from the novel and legend.
The action takes place in the 6th century AD. The beginning of the spread of Christianity and the end of the Roman Empire. The Romans had already left the British continent, leaving behind a fragmented Britain and a strong Ireland. The two islands are in conflict, the King of Ireland Donchand dreams of embroiling all the British kingdoms in order to conquer them.
It was during this period that the life of the future knight Tristan and the young princess Isolde begins, who in early childhood lost her mother, who was replaced by a nanny.
The ruler of the Kingdom of Cornwall, King Mark, dreams of uniting all the kings of Britain under the threat of the Irish raids. All attempts to unite end when King Donchand sends his warriors to the castle of Mark. In this massacre, young Tristan loses his hand and his parents. King Mark takes the orphan up and raises him as his son. Tristan grows up to be a real knight, infinitely loyal to the king. Mark builds a castle in his kingdom, similar to the Roman fortifications.
At the same time, the story of Princess Isolde, daughter of the Irish king Donchand, develops. Her father wants to give the girl off to the warrior Morold. He also plans to impose tribute on the British (slaves act as tribute) and provoke them. But the girl does not want to marry a rude soldier and runs away with her nanny Brangyena. At this time, Morold gathers a caravan to attack the British. During the battle, Tristan distracts some of the Irish warriors. Having attacked the caravan, the knight kills Morold, but he manages to wound him with a blade with poison.
Comrades, deciding that Tristan died, arrange a funeral ceremony for him, immersing the body in a boat and letting it go through the water. The boat sails to Ireland, where Tristan wakes up. Isolde discovers a boat with a half-dead young man and begins to nurture her patient - she owns prescriptions for drugs and has the gift of a doctor. Love breaks out between young people. The girl understands that the young man is British, therefore she does not ask the knight unnecessary questions, she herself introduces herself by a different name. Tristan lives in a shack on the beach, and only Isolde and her nanny know about his existence.
One day, Morold's sword is found in Tristan's abandoned boat. The locals start hunting for Tristan, and he is forced to flee Ireland. The young man offers Isolde to sail with him, but the princess refuses.
Meanwhile, Donchand continues to hatch plans for Isolde's marriage. This time he plans to pass the girl off as one of the kings of Britain. He says that he wants to reconcile the two islands in this way, but his plans are to conquer Britain. Donchand is organizing a tournament, the winner of which will get Isolde as his wife.
King Mark at the tournament is represented by Tristan, who does not suspect that his beloved is at stake. Isolde invites Tristan to flee, but he is confident that the marriage of the girl and Mark will help establish peace between the islands. Isolde marries Mark, he is kind to his young wife and turns a blind eye to the fact that she is in love with the British knight and his charge.
But this is where Lord Ouistred comes into play, whom Tristan defeated in the final of the tournament. An envious person, he notices Isolde's feelings for a rival and enters into a conspiracy with her father. Donchand promises him the crown. He is confident that the Lord will plunge Britain into civil strife and make it easy prey in the future.
Meanwhile, Mark catches Tristan and Isolde during one of their dates and gives them the opportunity to escape, but the faithful Tristan remains with his patron.
Displeased with Tristan and deceived by the lord, Melod escorts Tristan to Mark's castle. The British and Donchand with his army approach the castle. As a result of the final battle, Melod, Donchand, Ouistred and Tristan, who died in the arms of his beloved, die. Mark defeats the Irish. He soon managed to unite Britain and ruled it for many years.
